Every year, student move-out generates tons of avoidable waste from clothing to toiletries to room supplies. FSU Sustainable Campus has partnered with University Housing to create an annual event at the end of Spring semester to collect any items that may otherwise be left behind and distribute them across Tallahassee to those in need. You can find information on what can be donated and where donations can be dropped off for both on and off campus students here.

What To Donate


Some items that can be donated are listed below, but more information can be found at the website linked above

  • Books: textbooks, novels, magazines
  • Clothing: clothing, shoes, costumes, bags, and hangars
  • Toiletries: Unopened shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, tissues, and toilet paper
  • School Supplies: Paper, pens, pencils, markers, folders, binders, lab supplies, poster board, art supplies, cork/dry erase boards
  • Cleaning Supplies: Mops, brooms, vacuums, cleaning solutions, wipes, paper towels, sponges
  • Bedding: Sheets, pillows, towels
  • Food: Unopened food, canned goods, bottled water, paper/plastic products, utensils
  • Electronics: Printers, alarm clocks, batteries, radios, light bulbs
  • Room Decor: Small appliances, plastic storage bins, rugs, desk/floor lamps, mirrors, baskets, shelves/bookcases, frames

Where To Donate


On Campus
  • During move out, blue collection bins are located around campus for donations. You can find their locations at the above link.

Off Campus
Chuck It For Charity does not extend to off campus students but there are numerous community organizations that will accept donations. These include:
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend
    Keep an eye out for large purple bins across Tallahassee to drop donations for this organization. They do not accept furniture or appliances.
  • Brehon Family Services
    Donations can be dropped at 1315 Linda Ann Drive on the front porch.
  • Furniture Bank of Tallahassee
    They do not accept electronics, and information for a donation appointment can be found on their website, as well as a list of most needed donations.
  • Goodwill
    There are multiple Goodwill locations around Tallahassee that accept various locations, find the closest location to you at their website!
