FSU Sustainable Campus has many opportunities for students to get involved! Here you can find information on some of our main programs, and how to get involved with each. Reach out to sustainablecampus@fsu.edu with any questions.

Academics

Sustainability is a constantly changing field, and many of its challenges have outgrown simple solutions. At FSU, students can learn about current debates and developments from environmental, economic, and social perspectives, and learn the skills they need to be part of the solution.

  • Engage100
    Engage 100 courses are small, guided experiences centered on a particular topic with the additional goal of helping students get acclimated to university life. Students can find more information on our website.
  • Sustainability Fellowships
    The Sustainability Fellows program is an opportunity open to all students across any discipline to actively participate in tackling sustainability issues within the community. Students will receive real-world experience in sustainability, and with several projects open each semester there is something for everyone.   • Sustainability Courses and Degree Programs
    FSU has several sustainability-related courses and degree programs across many disciplines. These courses must focus on at least two of the three pillars of sustainability: economic viability, social equity, and environmental protection. Students can find a list of such courses, programs, and careers here.
  • Sustainability Pathways
    Sustainability Pathways is a way for students to get recognition for their sustainability knowledge and practical experience. With sustainability becoming increasingly important in the workplace, Sustainability Pathways allows students across several disciplines to show their skills. With three badges available, students have the freedom to choose their level of engagement and tailor their pathway to their interests. More information is found here.

Campus Programs

There are many Sustainable Campus programs for all sorts of student interests. From tackling food insecurity and food waste, to recycling, to gardening, there are programs for everyone. Each offers a unique and hands-on sustainability experience.

  • Food Recovery Network (FRN)
    FSU’s Food Recovery Network is a student-led organization working to reduce and eliminate food waste on campus and redirect it toward those facing food insecurity in Tallahassee. Through involvement with the FRN, students will be supporting the food insecure individuals of FSU and Tallahassee.   • Garnet and Gold Goes Green (G4)
    The Garnet and Gold Goes Green (G4) program is FSU's gameday recycling program. For home football games, volunteers recycle from tailgaters outside of Doak Campbell Stadium. In the spring, volunteers recycle during home basketball games at the Civic Center. G4 helps to reduce plastic waste and other pollution generated by fans and keeps FSU's stadium and campus beautiful. Interested students can go here for more information.
  • Seminole Organic Garden
    The Seminole Organic Garden is a unique space on campus where students, faculty, and staff can rent garden plots and learn how to grow their own food - and everything that comes with it, such as composting, plant care, and weed control. The garden is a well-loved spot on campus - used for studying, picnics, and socializing. Friends and visitors alike enjoy the unique biodiversity our garden has to offer.   • EcoReps
    Eco-Reps is an environmental education program that focuses on environmental justice and completing service events around these issues on campus & around Tallahassee. Eco-Reps teaches students about environmental issues and personal sustainability practices. Being educated on environmental issues and aware of injustices that exist equips students with the resources to advocate for themselves and others. Building eco-friendly habits with the knowledge to share them with others is an important step towards widespread sustainability. Students in Eco-Reps will develop the skills to do both in order to build a more sustainable campus and future. Find out more about becoming an Eco-Rep at our website here.

Be an Advocate

Sustainable Campus initiatives are events and campaigns that advance sustainability at FSU. Students are the driving force behind many of these efforts, and it’s because of their passion that we have long standing traditions like Earth Week and Chuck it for Charity today!
