Florida State University appoints Carlos J. Gómez as associate vice president and dean of students

Florida State University has announced the appointment of Carlos J. Gómez as Associate Vice President for Health, Wellness, and Safety and Dean of Students, effective June 23.
With over 20 years of experience in student affairs at two academic institutions within the State University System of Florida, Gómez possesses immense knowledge of collaborative and student-centered leadership. He has served as both a health care provider and a safety and security officer, championing a continuum of mental health services for students and staff’s well-being.
“I am thrilled that Dr. Gómez will be taking on this new role,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Amy Hecht. “His leadership and expertise will undoubtedly strengthen our university’s commitment to supporting the health, safety and success of all students.”
Gómez joined Florida State in 2014 and has since served as the director and chief mental health administrator for Counseling and Psychological Services. Prior to this role, he was the director of training at Florida International University.
“Throughout my career, I have adhered to a service model of leadership where I have consistently prioritized the growth and well-being of my staff who, in turn, reciprocate by providing quality service for our students,” Gómez said. “It is my sincere honor to accept this responsibility and a privilege to serve the Florida State University community.”
Gómez earned his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and a Master of Science in Education/Mental Health Counseling from the University of Miami.
